We always want to hear from members about the challenges they are facing and the opportunities they see for the sector. During election season, it's especially important that we focus our advocacy on the issues that matter most. Thank you to everyone who took part in our survey and helped shape our key messages and priorities. Based on your feedback, the strongest priorities are:

Top priorities for sector collaboration

  • Sharing resources, policies and tools.
  • Sharing innovations and reducing duplication.
  • Building stronger regional and national alliances.
  • Developing national sponsorship and partnership opportunities.

Top priorities for Museums Aotearoa

  • Better communicating our value to politicians and decision-makers.
  • Improving public understanding of the sector's impact.
  • Influencing local government reform.
  • Strengthening career pathways, internships and mentoring.

Top advocacy priorities for government

  • A national cultural infrastructure investment pipeline and fund.
  • Support for asset renewal, maintenance, climate resilience and heritage protection.
  • Long-term, equitable operational funding for museums and galleries.
  • Greater clarity around central and local government responsibilities for cultural infrastructure and collections.

These priorities will help shape Museums Aotearoa's advocacy and engagement work in the months ahead.
